IBHE TO FOCUS ON KEY ILLINOIS PUBLIC AGENDA INITIATIVES

IBHE to hear state experts report updates on key initiatives
impacting the higher education infrastructure of Illinois

Springfield – Illinois has been diligent in working towards accomplishing the goals of the Illinois Public Agenda as well as the statewide goal that by the year 2025, 60 percent of all Illinoisans will have a college degree or credential of marketable value.

During its meeting on April 2, the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) will hear updates from Dr. Alan Phillips, Deputy Director for Fiscal Affairs, Budgeting and Information Technology on the Illinois Longitudinal Data System (ILDS). The ILDS will link data among seven state agencies to track students’ progress from pre-K through postsecondary education and on to their careers. A second presentation will be made by Eric Zarnikow, Executive Director of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, who will offer an update on the Monetary Award Program, a highly successful grant program aimed at increasing access to postsecondary education for low income students. The final presentation will be made by Dr. Elaine Maimon, President of Governors State University, who will discuss dual degree collaborations with community colleges.

“The presentations at the April board meeting illustrate diverse efforts aimed at moving Illinois toward our statewide completion goal,” Carrie J. Hightman, IBHE Chairwoman said. “The highlighted efforts include creating a data infrastructure for longitudinal research on student outcomes, providing direct financial assistance, and improving the transition between community colleges and senior institutions. Programs in each of these areas are key to our continued success.”

The IBHE will meet Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Elgin Community College, located at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
