LAVISTA PRAISES GOVERNOR, GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR FACULTY DIVERSITY
LEGISLATION
SPRINGFIELD - Daniel J. LaVista, Executive Director of the
Illinois Board of Higher Education, expressed gratitude to Governor
Rod R. Blagojevich and the General Assembly for legislation enacted
Wednesday to promote diversity among college and university faculty.
"I wish to thank Governor Blagojevich, Senator Miguel del Valle,
and Representative Kevin McCarthy and their colleagues in the General
Assembly for this vital legislation to strengthen faculty diversity
programs in Illinois.
"We in the higher education community congratulate the Governor
for his vision in signing Senate Bill 3107 and Senator del Valle
and Representative McCarthy for their leadership in shepherding
this legislation to the Governor's desk.
"Senate Bill 3107 creates the Diversifying Faculty in Illinois
Higher Education Program, which will be a valuable tool in preparing
minority graduate students to join the faculty ranks at colleges
and universities throughout the state. The Board of Higher Education
and our higher education community remain committed to the goal
of making diversity a living, dynamic force in college and university
classrooms across Illinois."
