Illinois Public Agenda Implementation
IBHE discusses implementation of the Illinois Public Agenda, including a governance structure for the P-20 Longitudinal Education Data System
SPRINGFIELD –The Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) will discuss ways to accelerate implementation of the Illinois Public Agenda for College and Career Success when it meets on April 10. In addition, Paige Kowalski, Director of State Policy Initiatives of the Data Quality Campaign, will discuss the need for a P-20 Longitudinal Education Data System (ILDS) for students in pre-school through graduate school. She will also discuss the importance of creating a centralized governance structure when compiling student data.
The IBHE will meet at 1 p.m. at Truman College in Chicago.
“The Illinois Public Agenda is Illinois’ strategic plan for the development of state-level policy for higher education and economic development,” Carrie J. Hightman IBHE Chairwoman stated. “The research underlying the Illinois Public Agenda shows that there are two states of Illinois, one that is well educated and prosperous and the other that is vastly underserved educationally and struggling economically. The Illinois Public Agenda lays out the case for a governance structure for the ILDS. This structure will help ensure coordination of the data as well as develop a policy to guide the collection and dissemination of P-20 data. Such information is vital in determining the progress we are making in meeting the goals of the Ilinois Public Agenda.”
“The ILDS, as created under Public Act 96-107, is intended, among other purposes, to link students’ test scores, enrollment data, and graduation records over great spans of time,” IBHE Executive Director George Reid said. “When we finally establish the ILDS governance, Illinois will likely leap forward in its national rankings. Such rankings are produced by the reputable group, Data Quality Campaign.”
