Illinois Board of Higher Education Announces New Deputy Director for Academic Affairs
SPRINGFIELD – Dr. Harry J. Berman, Interim Executive Director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), announced the appointment of Dr. Dan Cullen to serve as the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, today, at the IBHE Board meeting at Kendall College.
Dr. Cullen has served as the Interim Deputy Director for Academic Affairs for the past seven months. He joined the Board October, 2011 as an Assistant Director for Academic Affairs.
“I am pleased that Dr. Cullen will lead the IBHE’s Academic Affairs area,” Dr. Harry J. Berman, IBHE Interim Executive Director, said. “He has ably served in an interim capacity as our Chief Academic Officer offering leadership to the Board in its approval process of new academic programs and administrative units at our public institutions and new Program/Operating Authority at Private Colleges and Universities. In addition, he has offered sound guidance to the Board in its administration of the Private Business and Vocational Schools Act which oversees 300 private business and vocational schools. He also has provided leadership on transfer and articulation efforts on behalf of the IBHE. His experience as well as his insight will be welcomed.”
Cullen earned his doctorate in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a specialization in community colleges. He represents the IBHE on a variety of state, regional, and national boards and committees, including the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) State Authorization Advisory Committee, the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), the u.select Illinois Advisory Board, and the Illinois Education Research Council Advisory Board.
